The Holy Resurrection Cathedral (Nikolai-dō) in Tokyo is the main cathedral of the Japanese Orthodox Church, founded by St. Nicholas of Japan in the late 1800s. Completed in 1891, it became the center of Orthodox Christianity in Japan. The original building was severely damaged in the 1923 Great Kantō earthquake and later rebuilt by 1929. Today it still functions as an active church and is a protected cultural landmark in Tokyo.
